What the rule actually is in Switzerland

Our own reading, not a summary of someone else's

A closed market by design. Under the 2019 Money Gaming Act only Swiss land-based casinos and the Gespa lottery and betting operators may run online, and there is no standalone online licence: a company needs a Swiss casino concession first and an online extension on top of it. Foreign operators are illegal and blocked: the ESBK and the intercantonal authority Gespa run a blacklist that passed 2,900 domains in February 2026 and now reaches affiliate sites, with ISPs required to DNS-filter and redirect to a government warning page. Tax starts at 20% of GGR up to CHF3m and scales from there, reaching as high as 80%. The combination leaves a small domestic field running on domestic rails, where TWINT is the default deposit method and the QR-bill bank transfer does the paying out.

How money actually moves

  • Bank transfer (Swiss IBAN, QR-bill)major

    bank transfer

Primary withdrawal rail (TWINT is deposit-only).
