What the rule actually is in Hungary

Our own reading, not a summary of someone else's

Split down the middle, and the split is what matters. Sports betting was liberalised from January 2023 and is open to private EEA operators through SZTFH licensing, with entry priced at HUF 1bn share capital and a HUF 600m licence fee plus 15% GGR tax and a 2.5% supervision fee, and a requirement of five years' licensed EEA online experience. Online casino is a different world: new entrants need a land-based casino concession, and as of late 2025 eleven of the twelve available concessions were already granted. So the honest read for an operator is that the betting door is open but expensive, and the casino door is effectively shut.

How money actually moves

The rails players reach for, in the order that matters locally

  • Local cards (Visa / Mastercard, HUF)dominant

    local cards

The default rail on SZTFH-licensed sites, acquired through the Hungarian entity the licence assumes.

  • Bank transfer (HUF, instant)major

    instant bank transfer

Hungary's domestic instant-payment scheme clears in seconds and carries larger deposits and withdrawals.

  • E-wallets (Skrill, Neteller, PayPal)

    e-wallet

A convenience layer rather than a primary rail inside the licensed perimeter.
