Our own reading, not a summary of someone else's
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland went live in 2026: applications opened in February, the first remote betting licenses issue from 1 July 2026 with enforcement starting alongside them, and in-person licensing follows in December. Operators pay a 2% betting duty on turnover rather than on margin, and a matching remote betting duty catches foreign operators serving Irish players. The GRAI has said it will revisit its license-fee structure on a tiered basis after industry pushback. Payments are drawn tightly: credit cards are banned outright and the ban reaches credit-funded e-wallets and buy-now-pay-later, so an acquirer has to enforce debit-only rather than merely prefer it.
